Fossil Fuel Divest Harvard – Global Climate Strike

On Friday, Fridays for Future is holding a global strike to raise awareness on the climate crisis and demand our leaders take action. The Boston event is in partnership with 350Mass, XRBoston Youth, and BCAN.

Local Fridays For Future activists are calling for no more fossil fuel finance in our community or our nation. Their demands are:

  • NATIONALLY: An end to fossil fuel lobbying, full divestment of financial institutions from the fossil fuel industry, and a tax on any that continue to invest.
  • STATE-LEVEL: a commitment to no new fossil fuel infrastructure, and 100% carbon emission free energy in Massachusetts by 2030.
  • LOCALLY: a stop to the Eastie Sub Station, currently being built on a flood zone.

See the full list of demands HERE.

Some FFDH organizers will be speaking at the event. Members of FFDH and HUEJ will meet up at the Harvard T stop at 11:30am to travel over together. Meet us there or at the statehouse!

In solidarity,
Fossil Fuel Divest Harvard

ReCap Webinar: Noam Chomsky on Doomed to Extinction?

RCEA Rimini Centre for Economic Analysis – May 23, 2022

Rethinking Capitalism (ReCap) Webinar Series

Capitalism is in a human, political, social, and environmental crisis. The Rethinking Capitalism (ReCap) Webinar Series is an opportunity to reflect on the failures of our cultural and production model. The objective of these talks is to foster awareness, cooperation, and activism among academics and guide policymakers in implementing corrective policies. The ReCap Webinar Series is jointly organized by RCEA-Europe ETS and CefES-DEMS, under the auspices of the JRC (European Commission). Participation in the webinar series is free through zoom. Information on the webinar series can be found at: https://www.rcea.world/events/forthco…

Today’s webinar is entitled “Doomed to Extinction? Reflections on Sunset of Humanity and the New Dawn? “. Our speaker is Prof Noam Chomsky from University of Arizona.

During and following World War One, Sigmund Freud wrote about the opposition between the life drive (Eros) and the self-destructive death instinct (Thanatos). Within this context, the very same survival of humanity so far is proof that the life drive is stronger than the death drive. Still, humanity has entered a new era of high extinction risk: the sixth mass extinction is ongoing, and climate change-related disasters are becoming more visible: tipping points, extreme weather, spreading of new diseases; and on top of this, a renovated risk of nuclear war. Will our life drive be enough this time as well, or is this time different and, therefore, humanity needs to achieve a higher awareness level to survive? And if this is the case, what would be the path toward this higher awareness?

What if We Actually Taxed the Rich? | Robert Reich

Robert Reich – Apr 1, 2021

Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich breaks down seven ways to tax the rich and raise trillions in revenue.

Watch More: 12 Myths About Taxing the Rich ►► • 12 Myths About Ta…

Income and wealth are now more concentrated at the top than at any time over the last 80 years, and our unjust tax system is a big reason why. The tax code is rigged for the rich, enabling a handful of wealthy individuals to exert undue influence over our economy and democracy.

Conservatives fret about budget deficits. Well, then, to pay for what the nation needs — ending poverty, universal health care, infrastructure, reversing climate change, investing in communities, and so much more — the super-wealthy have to pay their fair share.

Together, these seven ways of taxing the rich would generate more than $6 trillion over 10 years — enough to tackle the great needs of the nation. As inequality has exploded, our unjust tax system has allowed the richest Americans to hoard wealth, at the expense of the rest of us.

It’s not radical to rein in this irresponsibility. It’s radical to let it continue.

Deregulation is Destroying Us

Robert Reich Feb 23, 2023

Regulation is the way we protect ourselves from corporate greed. What happened in East Palestine, OH is a case study for what can go wrong when we allow corporations to put profits before the health and safety of people.

No one should have to go hundreds of thousands of dollars into debt to get an education. Period.
