As part of the Lagos Wetland Protection Campaign, this a short documentary showing the real-life experiences of people going through the loss of wetlands in their community. It is a curation of stories from the people of Oworonshoki, in Lagos, Nigeria. They share their experiences from the recent sand-filling activities over the years, the challenges with the flood, how they have managed to cope through it, and the efforts of the government so far.

This video focuses on the collaborative research projects HEALTHY FUTURES and QWeCI, which are funded through the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme.

Both HEALTHY FUTURES and QWeCI focus on major vector-borne diseases such as malaria, Rift Valley Fever and schistosomiasis and are complimentary to each other, with QWeCI focusing on western Africa and HEALTHY FUTURES on eastern Africa.

In case you have not heard that one, the clip of Professor Angela Davis should bring you up to speed. However, the kidnap story is false, as Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. shatters this falsehood in “The Slave Kingdoms”, part of “The Wonders of Africa” PBS series from 1999.
