The marginalization of the human population in the post-Columbian era has made the future of contemporary human civilizations very precarious in our rapidly changing global ecosystem.  It is not clear that our current governments or modern cultures can survive the massive transformations that each of them must now face as they are forced to confront the unfolding geophysical impact of the excessive combustion of terrestrial carbon in the industrial age over the last several hundred years in human history.
