Chinese President Xi Jinping joined his U.S. counterpart Joe Biden and other world leaders to pledge drastic action against climate change. Speaking at a virtual Earth Day summit, President Xi said China will strictly limit coal consumption and aim to achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. For his part, President Biden, who’s hosting the virtual gathering, promised to drastically cut U.S. emissions in the next nine years. One American state that’s leading the fight against climate change is California. Jared Blumenfeld, the state’s Secretary for Environmental Protection, tells us how China and the U.S. can complement each other in the fight to protect the environment.
