Facing Future
The public is strongly encouraged to attend the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) virtual hearing, on March 9th at 2pm -4pm EST at which Stuart Scott will be joined by nuclear engineer Paul Blanch and #PublicWatchdogs executive director Charles Langley to expose dangerous safety violations at the #SanOnofre nuclear waste storage facility in San Clemente, California.
Access details below. They will speak in support of Public Watchdogs petition demanding that the agency justify its conclusion that the risks of flooding, corrosion or other event, that could result in the release of toxic radiation, are impossible or “non-credible” While the rest of the world uses steel casks that are 10-19 inches thick, the nearly 2,000 tons of highly radioactive waste at the San Onofre is stored in 73 thin- walled steel canisters ⅝ inch thick, just 100 feet from the Pacific Ocean.
The result of even one canister being breached or leaking could be a radiation release on the order of what was released at Chernobyl in 1986.
