George Monbiot ‘Summits Do Not Work’ | Extinction Rebellion UK

Extinction Rebellion

Oct 14, 2020

‘One of the definitions of madness is doing the same thing again and again, and expecting a different result. Where climate summits are concerned we’ve done it 25 times now and we’ve basically got nowhere, biodiversity summits, not quite as many times, but plenty and we’re still getting nowhere.

There’s lots of targets, lots of promises, and they are perpetually broken. The model of international summits is broken, it is failed.

We need to do things differently. So what we urgently need is for brilliant people, system thinkers, to come forward and find a different place to intervene in the system, a different way of doing it and we also need to remember that we can’t trust governments to do in our behalf.

That’s why we need protest movements, that’s why we need Extinction Rebellion, why we need Fridays For Future, why we need to learn to organise and to agitate.’
