Donald Trump began his campaign for president by making immigration restrictions a centerpiece of his platform. He is ending his (first?) term with his administration dealing with the biggest public health crisis in decades. But there are a lot of connections between public health and our country’s immigration policies and practices.

Join us for a conversation with New Orleans-based Giuli Alvarenga, an award-winning writer and law student. Alvarenga will share personal accounts as a volunteer at the border, witnessing unsafe conditions, and the conviction that immigration is actually a public health concern.

New cases were reported in China’s eastern province of Shandong. The province’s biggest city, Qingdao, posted six confirmed cases and another six asymptomatic cases over the weekend. The city of about 9 million people plans to carry out coronavirus tests on all of its residents within five days. Worldwide, the number of confirmed cases is approaching 38 million. In Europe and the U.S., many medical experts are sounding the alarm over a second wave of infections. What happens now?
