The Guanyin Pavilion was built to last. And last. And last. This temple has sat atop a large reef rock in the middle of China’s Yangtze River in Ezhou for 700 years. When the water rises and covers the foundation, it looks like the structure is floating. Also known as the Goddess of Mercy Pavilion, the temple isn’t open to the public nowadays. But we’ve captured a glorious bird’s eye view of this historical treasure, holding its own against the swirling current.

As the coronavirus spreads in Yemen, where the population already devastated by the world’s worst humanitarian crisis faces growing hunger and aid shortages, the Saudi-led, U.S.-backed coalition continues to drop bombs in the country.
We speak to Yemeni scholar Shireen Al-Adeimi, who calls the ongoing crisis “Trump’s war.” “We’re seeing death rates that are just astronomical,” Al-Adeimi says. “The war continues, the bombing continues, the blockade is still enforced.”

Stephen is an organic farmer and food activist based in Ecuador as well as a lecturer and research fellow with the Communication and Innovation Group at Wageningen University. Over the last 25 years, he has supported rural people’s movements throughout the Americas, seeking social change in favour of healthier, more sustainable living and being. The activity of my colleagues and I has contributed to major innovations in rural development practice, including: the introduction of farmer-led experimentation and farmer-to-farmer extension methodologies in favour of the sustainable intensification of smallholder agriculture through the successful promotion of green manures and covercrops, Integrated Pest Management, seed management, and water harvesting.
