TRUMP MOVES FORWARD WITH PLAN TO WITHDRAW FROM WHO AS NEW CASES SURGE: Officials from the World Health Organization hold a briefing on the latest developments of the global coronavirus outbreak. Last week, the Trump administration formally notified Congress and the United Nations of its plan to withdraw from the World Health Organization, a move that has been criticized by a bipartisan group of legislators, medical professionals, and advocacy groups. WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus condemned the lack of global leadership in response to the pandemic while speaking emotionally at a briefing on Friday. ‘The greatest threat we face now is not the virus itself,’ Adhanom Ghebreyesus said. ‘Rather, it’s the lack of leadership and solidarity at the global and national levels… We cannot defeat this pandemic as a divided world.’ The action would not officially go into effect until July 2021, and former VP Joe Biden has already promised to reverse the decision ‘on [his] first day’ if elected.
