Why Trump “got a win” from the Supreme Court on releasing his tax records

The Supreme Court this week rejected President Trump’s claim of absolute immunity under the law, ruling that a Manhattan grand jury could seek access to the president’s tax returns. In a related ruling, however, the justices declined to order Trump to release his financial records to Congress, sending the case back to a lower court for further deliberation. As a result, it’s highly unlikely that any of Trump’s finances will be seen by the public before the November election. “Legally, Trump had a big loss,” says investigative reporter David Cay Johnston. “Politically, he got a big win out of this court.”
