There will be no “post-Coronavirus” moment ahead because as a species we are a participant in a complex ecosystem that we cannot control. We are only now beginning to realize that we are not in charge and that there are severe limits on our collective behavior as pandemic diseases are likely to emerge again and again on in our climate-changed world. (See: There will be no “post-COVID” world …. )

‘Mitch McConnell is no leader. He is the epitome of unprincipled power.’ — Robert Reich explains how the Senate majority leader is willfully destroying the Senate for partisan gain. » Subscribe to NowThis: http://go.nowth.is/News_Subscribe In political news, former Labor Secretary Robert Reich is speaking out against Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Reich says the top Republican has done much to undermine the functioning of the US government. Reich says while Donald Trump has defiled the White House, McConnell is actively and willfully destroying the Senate. McConnell’s Republican senate blocked 79 Obama judges and famously delayed Merrick Garland’s nomination to the Supreme Court. McConnell ended the use of the filibuster for SCOTUS appointees, which helped push Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh through. Then he cut debate time for Trump judges.

For this week’s webinar, we are thrilled to be joined by author and environmental activist Bill McKibben. In 2008, Bill founded 350.org, an organization focused on bringing together a movement to end fossil fuels, build community resilience, and address environmental justice issues at their roots. As the world draws more and more parallels between the COVID-19 and climate crisis, his message of equity and justice in the climate fight holds even more truth as we work towards solutions that effectively combat both crises simultaneously. He also currently has a weekly column for The New Yorker.

According to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the President has basically stopped talking to the members of the Coronavirus task force, including Fauci himself, in recent weeks. This doesn’t mean that the pandemic is over, it just means that Trump has grown bored of it and has found something new to capture his attention. The U.S. is still reeling from the crisis, and Trump couldn’t care less. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this.

How high will the oceans rise due to climate change? The projections are the subject of dispute, with scientists continually correcting their estimates upward. Is this just panic-mongering or are these scenarios within the realm of possibility? Can we make any reliable predictions about the world’s oceans? If all the ice in Antarctica and Greenland were to melt, sea levels would rise by more than 66 meters. The consequences for coastal populations are gradually becoming clear. By 2100, coastlines around the world could change radically. The research being conducted by marine scientists will decide how affected regions can prepare for the disaster on the horizon. At what point will governments have to consider evacuating areas on the basis of cost-damage analyses? It is a process that has already begun in places like the United Kingdom.
