While corporations got a $500 billion windfall, working Americans got a measly one-time $1,200 check to get by during this months-long crisis. With 3.3 million people filing for unemployment in a single week, it’s time to start preparing for the inevitable recession ahead. We need to strengthen and expand unemployment insurance so that no worker gets left behind, strengthen public assistance, and protect food stamps.
