Trump’s war in Iran: Deadly sanctions & erratic decisions by a “hollow shell” administration

After the Soleimani assassination and Iran’s retaliatory missile strikes on a U.S. base in Iraq, University of Michigan history professor Juan Cole sees tensions in the region “escalating in very worrisome ways” — but what’s even more worrisome is that there seems to be no driver at the wheel except President Trump. “The Trump administration is a hollow shell. Six high Pentagon officials have recently resigned, partially because of Trump’s erratic behavior.” Cole also discusses the unprecedented level of sanctions the embattled president has imposed on Iran for well over a year. “The country is being economically strangled,” he says. “Trump has been at war with Iran from 19 months.”
