A United States appeals court has ordered President Donald Trump to hand over eight years worth of tax returns to New York prosecutors. The ruling allows prosecutors to enforce a subpoena for the documents from Trump’s accounting firm. Trump has tried to prevent the release of his tax information, as part of an investigation into alleged pre-election payoffs to women he allegedly had affairs with. It is likely the president will appeal this ruling – meaning it could end up in the US Supreme Court. Trump has argued that authorities cannot investigate a sitting president for anything. Claire Finkelstein, a professor of law at the University of Pennsylvania, talks to Al Jazeera about the development.
