Climate scientist Michael Mann: Media needs to “fix the headline” on climate change

Michael E. Mann, climatologist and professor at Penn State, says that several major world events currently dominating the headlines, from the record-breaking heatwave sweeping across the globe to the protests in Puerto Rico, have “an important climate change context.” But the media doesn’t often make those connections clear –– and with so much at stake, reporters need to do a better job communicating the scope of the climate crisis to their audiences. “Climate is no longer just a niche issue that deserves only to be covered in science programs or science and technology sections,” Mann says. “It is impacting every aspect of modern life.”
