Politicians are using coded language to “manipulate people” into making decisions they wouldn’t normally be “morally comfortable with,” a political language expert has told the BBC.
This kind of political message – which only a particular target audience is meant to understand – is known as a “dog whistle,” Professor Jennifer says.
Some have claimed these tactics were used to make people think Barack Obama was a foreigner. Others said UKIP’s “Breaking Point” poster was a racist dog whistle.
So how does it work?

National Intelligence Director Dan Coats published the annual “Worldwide Threat Assessment” yesterday — which directly contradicted Trump’s own stances on a range of matters, including his claims about the ISIS threat level and Iran’s nuclear progress, and Russian interference in 2016 election The statement adds to a long list of instances in which the President has made claims divorced from reality and disowned by experts on matters ranging from immigration to national security to climate change. To wade through fact versus fiction and what’s behind the battle for truth, Jim was joined by Nancy Gibbs, former editor in chief at Time Magazine and professor at Harvard’s Kennedy School; and Michael Serazio — assistant professor of communications at Boston College.

Trump’s particular brand of chaos might seem unique, but there’s one man who arguably deserves even more credit than the president for Trumpism. That man is Steve Bannon — Trump’s campaign CEO-turned former White House chief strategist, and the architect of some of Trump’s most extreme policies. Now, he’s the subject of a new film by Academy Award-winning documentarian and Cambridge native Errol Morris. It’s called ‘American Dharma,’ which thus far does not have a distributor. Jim Braude was joined by filmmaker Errol Morris.

The time is long overdue for the American people to tell Donald Trump that he is not a dictator, he is not a king, he is not the despotic ruler of Saudi Arabia, he is not his authoritarian friend Vladimir Putin of Russia. He is the president of the United States and he cannot and must not continue to threaten to shut down this government and hold hundreds of thousands of federal workers hostage.

http://www.workdayminnesota.org Black Friday, 11/28/14 More than 150 janitors and supporters picketed at Quarry Shopping Center in Minneapolis to call for living wages for the workers who clean stores like Home Depot. Janitors who work for five cleaning companies and clean 50 stores in the Twin Cites went on strike today. CTUL organizer Veronica Mendez told the crowd that a recent Minnesota Department of Health study found that low wage workers live an average of eight years fewer than people who earn adequate levels of pay. She said that companies who pay employees less than living wages, “steal years form the lives of workers and their children.”
