A conversation on “Gender and climate: how does climate change impacts gender equality?” with the Stockholm Environment Institute’s senior research fellow Bernadette P. Resurrección. GEFAssembly About #GEFLive: The interactive media hub GEF Live is at the Sixth GEF Assembly in Da Nang, Viet Nam from June 26-28, 2018. GEF Live is an opportunity for Assembly participants to engage in conversation with a global online audience and share ideas and solutions to some of our planet’s most urgent environmental problems.
So much carbon has been put into the atmosphere that climate change modelers assume we will develop technologies for sucking carbon out of the atmosphere. On the current trajectory of carbon emissions, the risks of global warming are so severe that some scientists are even researching ways of blocking incoming sunlight to cool the earth. But these “climate engineering” approaches to curb climate risks have risks of their own. In this talk, science writer Holly Jean Buck will discuss the possibilities of climate engineering approaches to limiting or reversing climate impacts, and what they could mean for human communities and our oceans. Buck is a researcher at UCLA’s Institute of the Environment and Sustainability. She completed a Ph.D. on environmental sociology and emerging technologies at Cornell University.
To: AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS STOP GEO-ENGINEERING OUR AUSTRALIAN SKIES We wish for the Australian Government to STOP the daily Geo-Engineering of our SKIES and hereby call for the Government to place an immediate ban on Geo-Engineering, as well as putting a moratorium in place until there is full public disclosure, and studies carried out that can verify the effects of Geo-Engineering on the populace and on our environment. Why is this important? Almost every day you, your children, your friends and families are breathing air that has been sprayed with nano particles of harmful chemicals. The Government and corporations are deliberately manipulating and altering our earth’s climate, endangering the lives of every person all over the Australia and the World.
Two of the most extreme cases of Geo-engineering are: –
1. Chemtrails: Stratospheric Aerosol injection (SRI), Solar Radiation Management (SRM) which is the constant release of toxic chemicals – Barium, Strontium, Aluminium, – into the air that are currently poisoning every human, every animal, every plant, even our soil;
2. Haarp: an electromagnetic antenna array based around the world that can send radio-frequency radiation over our planet, hence manipulating our weather patterns, causing earthquakes, tsuanami’s and much more. The daily practice of these actions represent some of the worst crimes in the history of man, yet such a large percentage of people are totally unaware of this happening. NASA Scientist Douglas E. Long View Polar Bear will be a key affiliated public art event at the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco Sept 10th-14th. The goal of the summit is for public and private leaders to commit to the Paris Agreement ahead of schedule. So thrilled to be participating in this historic event!
In climate news, the central and eastern United States are bracing for what forecasters are calling a “dangerous and oppressive heat wave” this weekend that will include possible record high temperatures, with a heat index in Chicago that could reach 115 degrees on Saturday.
In China, a heat wave continued to bake Shanghai, Beijing and other northern cities, forcing the country to speed imports of liquefied natural gas to meet rising eniergy demand for air conditioners. Meanwhile, parts of Great Britain recorded their hottest temperatures ever measured in June on Thursday. In Scotland, the roof of the Glasgow Science Centre began oozing tar as parts of the structure melted in the unprecedented heat.

Charleston, South Carolina has apologized for its role in the slave trade. The city council voted 7 to 5 to denounce slavery and released a resolution saying, “The institution of slavery did not just involve physical confinement and mistreatment. It also sought to suppress, if not destroy, the cultural, religious and social values of Africans.” RT America’s Ashlee Banks speaks with Marc Steiner, the president of The Center for Emerging Media and host of The Marc Steiner Show and asked, since 7 members condemned the city’s role in the slave trade and 5 members didn’t – what does that say about the city council.
Welcome to Transition Studies. To prosper for very much longer on the changing Earth humankind will need to move beyond its current fossil-fueled civilization toward one that is sustained on recycled materials and renewable energy. This is not a trivial shift. It will require a major transition in all aspects of our lives.
This weblog explores the transition to a sustainable future on our finite planet. It provides links to current news, key documents from government sources and non-governmental organizations, as well as video documentaries about climate change, environmental ethics and environmental justice concerns.
The links are listed here to be used in whatever manner they may be helpful in public information campaigns, course preparation, teaching, letter-writing, lectures, class presentations, policy discussions, article writing, civic or Congressional hearings and citizen action campaigns, etc. For further information on this blog see: About this weblog. and How to use this weblog.
