In Detroit, environmental justice advocate Siwatu-Salama Ra, mother and known environmental justice organizer, faces an inhumane justice system that has left her separated from her family and pregnant in a Michigan prison. Siwatu and many other women are doing the work Michigan has long neglected– fighting for clean air and safe drinking water in their communities and for their children. Yet these women of color are disproportionately targeted and face multi-faceted injustices of concentrated pollution in their communities, systemic inequities and a racist legal system.
