The financial elites cannot see the coming collapse of the fossil fuel bubble because their understanding of history is inherently and tragically myopic. To the extent that their perspective dominates thinking in the formulation of public policy, societies that adopt this orientation toward the future will inevitably destroy themselves from the contradictions of their own logic.
