Thomas Berry on Nature and Humans – Subtitled Interview

Caroline Webb

Uploaded on Oct 4, 2008

In this interview (with subtitles), eco-theologian Thomas Berry speaks about the need to expand our ideas about ‘rights’ and accept that other species should also have rights; they should have legal standing. Indeed, whole eco-systems such as a river or a coral reef could have a new legal status and gain stronger protection. Humans, he says, are here for the perfection of the Earth, not the other way round. Earth is not simply to be used. That path will lead the human to a state of acute spiritual illness, if not physical death.
