There are two routes that migrants follow to enter the EU. The land route begins when migrants cross from Turkey into Greece and move northward into Macedonia and eventually to the EU border in Hungary and onwards to the more prosperous EU nations with more economic opportunities, like Germany, the UK, and France. The sea route frequently begins in Libya and an attempt to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Italy. Those who make it alive then travel north. This is known as the deadliest migrant route, with frequent deadly accidents. CCTV’s Kate Parkinson has been meeting some of the people who are taking the long and difficult journey to Europe overland.
