House Democrats Derail Obama’s Push for TPP “Fast Track”

In a major blow to President Obama’s trade agenda, House Democrats have derailed attempts to speed through approval of the secretive Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade deal. Protesters from across the political spectrum have raised concerns it would undermine health and environmental regulations and hurt U.S. workers. On Friday, Democrats rejected a measure to give financial aid to displaced workers in a strategic move to block another bill giving Obama fast-track authority to ram the TPP through Congress on a yes-or-no vote. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi sided with fellow Democrats against fast track.

Nancy Pelosi: “For these and other reasons, I will be voting today to slow down the fast track to get a better deal for the American people — bigger paychecks, better infrastructure, help the American people fulfill the American dream.”

Clinton Urges Obama to Listen to Critics of TPP

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton broke her relative silence over the TPP Sunday, urging President Obama to listen to Democratic critics, including Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Hillary Clinton: “In order to get a deal that meets these high standards, the president should listen to and work with his allies in Congress, starting with Nancy Pelosi, who have expressed their concerns about the impact that a weak agreement would have on our workers, to make make sure we get the best, strongest deal possible. And if we don’t get it, there should be no deal.”

Clinton’s remarks came after she failed to address the TPP in her first major address kicking off her presidential campaign. We’ll have more on Clinton’s speech and her stance on the TPP after headlines.

As Democrats Walk Out on Obama’s TPP Deal, Where Does Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton Stand?

Democracy Now!

Published on Jun 15, 2015

http://democracynow.org – Former secretary of state, senator and first lady Hillary Clinton kicked off her White House bid to become the first woman U.S. president by highlighting her support for income equality, regulating Wall Street and vowing to fight for a fairer economy. On Sunday, she broke her silence on the secretive Trans-Pacific Partnership deal, saying President Obama “should listen to and work with his allies in Congress, starting with Nancy Pelosi, who have expressed their concerns about the impact that a weak agreement would have on our workers to make make sure we get the best, strongest deal possible. And if we don’t get it, there should be no deal.” Clinton’s comments come as the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday rejected the first in a series of trade bills despite President Obama making a personal plea for his own party’s support ahead of the vote. We speak with Lori Wallach, director of Public Citizen’s Global Trade Watch and author of “The Rise and Fall of Fast Track Trade Authority”; and Jeffrey Sachs, a leading economist, director of The Earth Institute at Columbia University and author of “The Age of Sustainable Development.”

We Descend Into Gallow’s Humour – CC12 – 2/5 – Dr. Guy McPherson

ClimateChange12.com

Published on Dec 20, 2014

In this Climate Update Video Part 2, we discuss the Climate Reality Acceptance Process (CRAP) and other delicate ironies of the day. WARNING: As serious as climate change, extinction and an ominous future are, we nonetheless take a ghoulish descent into a bit of gallow’s humour. As they say, laughter is the best medicine. Although we laugh, deep in our hearts, the somberness of the topic never leaves.

We also discuss the California drought situation and abrupt climate change.

The Bright Side of Human Extinction

In this part 2 video, we begin by delving a bit into the banal and macabre as we strive to find the wryness in the message of possible human extinction and oncoming climate change. Indeed, we are a bit irreverent as we attempt to bring to the forefront, the irony of the scale of what we might be facing in the near future.

Please do forgive, but the intent is simply to express some sort or respite from the madness, relieving tensions and the weightiness of the issues with a bit of laughter. Some may find this objectionable, but it is what it is, we are who we are. Please know no offense was meant… Personally, I find it important and beneficial to find some sort of humour as we watch the worrisome progression of climate change.

It can be with a heavy heart that many of us deal with portending times, but this truly is the opportunity to embrace the beautiful and the wondrous things that do surround us and find the loveliness (and fun) in the day. Again, there are those who suffer greatly as we seek our own joy, yes, life can seem quite unfair. But such is the way of earthly existence… so let us grasp what we can of the good… yes? 🙂

Deniers, New Zealand, Poignant Story – CC12 – 1/5 – Dr. Guy McPherson

ClimateChange12.com

Published on Dec 20, 2014

In this latest video update series part 1 with Dr. Guy McPherson, we chat about climate deniers and denialists who challenge the good doctor during his seminars with their own rather pesky art of persuasion and dissuasion. We then discuss the beauty, majesty and current tragedy that is the glorious country of New Zealand, and, from there, we begin to explore the open hostility and the ardent refusal of one man’s friends and family to even consider the negative aspects and dark possibilities of unrestrained climate change.

Finally in Part 1, Dr. McPherson again addresses the unusual and rather puzzling opportunity we all have in allowing the concept of death to help define the preciousness and richness of this thing call life. Knowing how we all will die shows us that we had the opportunity to live – something so many of us take for granted and dismiss as a automatic and oft-unappreciated given.

Part 2 of this multi-part series will hopefully continue tomorrow, if time and good fortune permit.

What is very remarkable about this latest series is that, towards the very end in the final video, we discuss a very positive turnabout that may quite surprise everyone.

Thank you so much for watching, and bearing up with these episodic presentations as I am limited in time and opportunity to process and edit as quickly as I might wish.

With warm regards to all, and the Happiest of Holiday wishes, much love and good blessings to all! 🙂

Meeting Dahr Jamail & Other Fellow Climate Warriors – CC12 – 3/5 – Dr. Guy McPherson

Published on Dec 22, 2014

Dr. Guy McPherson discusses the Earth At Risk 2014 Conference in San Francisco. He and Dahr Jamail hop at Ihop Restaurant, and it suddenly comes upon Dr. McPherson that there is a Sixth Stage of Grief beyond the initial five – namely, gallow’s humour. This seems to be so true… a coping mechanism. What can one do, but seek to find some sort of release in the irony of it all? More below ↓

Thank you for watching, please do click the subscribe button for latest updates and give a thumb’s up if you like our videos. What you think truly counts, and we very much appreciate your vote. You are the reason we do these videos. 🙂 Part 4 will be coming soon.

In this climate update video part 3, Dr. Guy McPherson talks about meeting with other climate, environmental and human rights’ warriors at the San Francisco Palace of Fine Arts’ Justice and Sustainability Conference. There was the inevitable clash of egos, as well as the opportunity to meet and converse with people of like minds and souls.

Dr. McPherson expresses a bit of frustration as egos present themselves, and we have a bit of fun enjoying the thought of humans strutting about bumping chests, our laughter directed mostly at ourselves, of course. All in all, it seemed to be a very notable and auspicious group of very dedicated individuals convening together to present and hear about what are arguably the most important issues of our day; namely, climate change, the environment and its flora and fauna, and human rights.

As is said, “united we stand, divided we fall, let us support one another.” Deep thanks and appreciation to all those who participated and those who worked tirelessly to bring this all together.
