Despair work – The Work that Reconnects. It is about speaking the truth about how the climate change situation makes us feel so powerless gives us some space around it. It can make us feel that we are not alone. They are real and healthy responses to what is going on. Kirsten gives her take on despair work and it’s benefits.

Climate Change Denial – Psychology

IntegrationTraining

Published on Nov 30, 2013

Climate Change Denial – Psychology. What prevents people looking at climate change as an issue. It is so complex and there are no easy answer. There is a harrowing reality that fills people with dispair, the overwealming fear can make us disfunctional. But learning to speak from an honest place that acknowledges the reality of what is happening can be liberating.

Dr Robert Gifford – The Psychology of Climate Action and Inaction – 16 Oct 2013

IIEA1

Published on Nov 1, 2013

About the Speech:

At this event, Dr Gifford discussed his research into the psychology of climate action and inaction. In particular, he considered the question of how to engage people in actions to help mitigate climate change rather than just express concern about it, and he identified the seven key psychological barriers to individual climate action. In this way, he provided valuable insight into the behaviors which policy makers and companies need to target to ensure efficient energy use, in a cost effective manner.

About the Speaker:

Dr Gifford is a professor in the Department of Psychology and the School of Environmental Studies at the University of Victoria in Canada, where he is also the founding director of the program in the Human Dimensions of Climate Change. He is the editor of the Journal of Environmental Psychology, author of four editions of the textbook Environmental Psychology: Principles and Practice, former president of the environmental division of the International Association of Applied Psychology and a former member of the American Psychological Association’s Task Force on the Interface between Psychology and Global Climate Change.
The IIEA wishes to acknowledge the kind support of its Foundation member, ESB, for this event.

New Economy Coalition

The mission of the New Economy Coalition (NEC) is to convene and support all those who might contribute to an economy that is restorative to people, place, and planet, and that operates according to principles of democracy, justice and appropriate scale. Faced with interconnected ecological and economic crises, we believe that shared prosperity, sustainability and an equitable society require deep, systemic changes to both our economy and our politics. We support a just transition to a new economy that enables both thriving communities and ecological health.
