Sandy Shuts 3 Nuke Plants; ‘Alert’ Remains At Oyster Creek
Note: Yet one more reason to abolish nuclear power–as extreme weather gets even more so, nuke plants become less stable. Oh and by the way, nukes are NOT CO2 neutral. Between the mining, the refining, the construction and the transport, nukes put out huge quantities of emissions.

Hurricane Sandy triggered reactor shutdowns at three nuclear plants, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said today. The NRC also noted that the ‘Alert’ condition that was triggered yesterday at the Oyster Creek plant in New Jersey remains in effect due to high water levels in its water intake structure…..(more).

Urban Growth Boundary: Oregon Agriculture and Managed Growth

Published on Oct 30, 2012 by cookingupastory

Oregon is among the very few states, and the Portland area, of the even fewer major metro areas, that have for decades effectively fought back the forces of development, and resisted converting ever more parcels of urban land for re-zoning to industrial and commercial use, overemployed in other places under the banner of job creation and the promise of wider economic prosperity. Since the 1970’s, growth in the Portland area has been confined within carefully crafted boundaries, the Urban Growth Boundary (UGB), outside of which, urban growth was not allowed to occur.
