Do the Math – Because We > Fossil Fuels.

http://math.350.org/?akid=2208.1390.eqkexY&rd=1&t=2
On November 7th, we’re hitting the road to jumpstart the next phase of the climate movement.

It’s simple math: we can burn 565 more gigatons of carbon and stay below 2°C of warming — anything more than that risks catastrophe for life on earth. The only problem? Fossil fuel corporations now have 2,795 gigatons in their reserves, five times the safe amount. And they’re planning to burn it all — unless we rise up to stop them.

This November, Bill McKibben and 350.org are hitting the road to build the movement that will change the terrifying math of the climate crisis.

Organic farmers beat US droughts

Published on Sep 30, 2012 by AlJazeeraEnglish

The recent drought in the United States has damaged crops and driven up food prices. However, organic farmers say that they have fared better, thanks to alternative growing methods. Al Jazeera’s John Hendren reports from Ottawa, Illiois.

FRONTLINE | “A Climate of Doubt” Preview | PBS

Published on Sep 30, 2012 by PBS

http://to.pbs.org/Ou7JnK Coming October 23, 2012. FRONTLINE explores the massive shift in public opinion on climate change.

Four years ago, climate change was hot. Politicians from both parties, pressed by an anxious public, seemed poised to act. But that was then. Today, public opinion about the climate issue has cooled, and politicians either ignore the issue or loudly proclaim their skepticism of scientific evidence that human activity is imperiling the planet. What’s behind this reversal? FRONTLINE correspondent John Hockenberry of PRI’s The Takeaway goes inside the organizations that fought the scientific establishment, environmental groups, and lawmakers to shift the direction of debate on climate issues and redefined the politics of global warming.

“The poet’s eye, in fine frenzy rolling,
Doth glance from heaven to Earth,  from Earth to heaven.
And as imagination bodies forth
The forms of things unknown, the poet’s pen
Turns them to shapes, and gives to airy nothing
A local habitation and a name.“

William Shakespeare
(Theseus, in  A Midsummer  Night’s Dream)

Impacts & Adaptation | Climate Change | US EPA

http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/impacts-adaptation/
The changing climate impacts society and ecosystems in a broad variety of ways. For example climate change can increase or decrease rainfall, influence agricultural crop yields, affect human health, cause changes to forests and other ecosystems, or even impact our energy supply. Climate-related impacts are occurring across regions of the country and across many sectors of our economy. Many state and local governments are already preparing for the impacts of climate change through “adaptation,” which is planning for the changes that are expected to occur.

THE CORPORATION 8/23 Mindset

Uploaded by machbar on Jan 24, 2007

8. The profit motive drives the actions of the corporation and creates a mindset of competition and anything goes. Meet corporate spy and self-described predator Marc Barry as he describes his tactics for gathering intelligence from competing corporations.
Juxtapose his attitude with Ray Anderson, President of Interface, who, in an epiphanic
moment, realized he was a plunderer and it was only a matter of time before the law
figures it out.
